Choosing an aluminium door
The right door depends on the width of the opening, how often it is used and how much of the wall you want to open. These are the door systems we make, and where each one makes sense.
Palace sliding door
The Palace sliding door has minimal system limits, so it can fill larger openings and bring in more daylight. Laminated safety glass comes as standard, there is a wide range of handles, and it is made in 2, 3, 4 and 6 panel configurations. It suits main living areas where the door is also the view.
Patio sliding door
The Patio sliding door is intended for cost-conscious projects. The doors are reversible, so the configuration can change on site if the layout does. A night latch and a key cylinder can be added, and it comes in 2, 3, 4 and 6 panels. Both sliding systems are covered in more detail on our aluminium sliding doors page.
Folding door
Folding door panels fold and stack to one or two sides, opening almost the full width of the wall. They suit entertainment areas and can also divide one room from another. A louvre insert can add a security barrier or act as a shutter. Configurations run to 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 panels, and 3 and 5 panels with a Y-louvre insert. Single hinged doors
A single hinged aluminium door is the plain choice for a back door, a side entrance or a door onto a small balcony, where a sliding or folding system would be more than the opening needs. It can be fully or partly glazed, and paired with a fixed side light where the opening is wider than one door.
Glass in doors
Doors are where people most often walk into or push against glass. That is why laminated safety glass is standard on the Palace door and a sensible choice on any glazed door. Laminated glass holds together if it breaks, so the doorway stays closed until the pane is replaced.
Things to decide before you ask for a quote
- Width and height of the opening, in millimetres.
- Sliding, folding or hinged, or describe how you use the space and we will suggest a type.
- Number of panels, and which panel should open first.
- Locking: a night latch and key cylinder on sliding doors, or a louvre insert on folding doors.
- Frame colour, if the door has to match windows already in the house.
When an old door can be saved
If your current door sticks, jumps its track or will not lock, it may only need new rollers, a lock or an adjustment. Our page on aluminium sliding door repairs explains the usual faults and what fixing them involves. We would rather repair a sound frame than replace it.
